DTH Licence of Pakistan
A long waited auction for Pakistan DTH services was held on Wednesday, 23rd November 2016 under the headship of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) chairman Absar Alam.
After hundreds of hurdles, Supreme Court of Pakistan did the decision in the favor of PEMRA and allows starting the pending auction as soon as possible.
After a lengthy process of almost fifteen hours, PEMRA successfully auctioned the first ever three DTH licenses for the total of Rs 14.69 billion.
PEMRA receives offers for Pakistan’s 1 DTH licenses for Rs. 4898 million each. A total of 11 companies took part in the bidding process.

The PEMRA shortlists these companies after go through several surveys and allows them to participate in the auction. The companies that were the part of auction are following.

- Mag Entertainment
- Skyflix
- Smart Times Communication
- Sardar Builders
- Smart Sky
- Parus Media
- Naya Tel
- Shahzad Sky
- HB DTH
- IQ communications
The highest bid was raised by Mag Entertainment for Rs. 4.91 billion followed by Shahzad Sky for Rs. 4.90 billion and Star time for Rs. 4.89 billion.
The bidders are required to deposit 15 percent of the bid money at the first phase. Followed by 50 percent of the bid money in the second and the remaining mark up in the third phase.
The installments have to be done in a period of three years. License to bid winners would be awarded after clearance from the interior ministry and law enforcement agencies.
The crow of this success is totally set up to the head of Chairman Absar Alam who is putting all his efforts for the development of country’s media on modern technology.
The step taken by the PEMRA would not only bring prosperity in the economy of the country but also gives a rich experience to the viewers with quality entertainment, information and education.
